| | SecFlow: Automatic Determination of Security Critical Data Flows in Source-code

| | A configurable and programming language independent tool-framework with language dependent plugins has been designed, implemented and tested in the context of the SecFlow project. This tool-framework tracks unsecure data flows on their way from a untrustworthy data source to a security critical data sink in the source-code. This makes it possible to determine whether unexpected inputs can get into security critical system functions without validation. Since unsecure data flows contribute significantly to the software attacks known so far, this tool-framework represents an important step in the improvement of the software security in general.
The SecFlow analysis is based on a static, context-sensitive data and control flow analysis of the source-code. One of the unique characteristics of the tool is the language independency achieved with language specific plugin architecture. The plugins are responsible for the translation of the source-code or the byte-code of the programming language into an abstract intermediate code. Plugins for Java and the programming languages of the .NET platform of Microsoft (C#, Visual Basic .NET et al.) have been realised in the project. The essential code information is converted from the intermediate code to a relational form which is subsequently used in a the deductive database analysis using logical analysis rules. The analysis results are presented in comprehensible manner in a presentation component realised in the project. The presentation component provides a backward reference from the analysis results to the source-code of the analysed system.
The tool-framework is built in an flexible and modular architecture. Several Open Source libraries have been adapted and integrated as a part of the realisation of the tool-framework.

| | | The new version of the products CC AUDITOR and CC ARTISAN for Host as well as PC is now available. Numerous extensions and improvements have been integrated into the new products.
| | | More than 20 new testing and reformatting rules for Java and COBOL alone have been added to the standard package of the metric library of CC AUDITOR and CC ARTISAN. With the current version 6.0.0 of CC AUDITOR for host new HTML reports can be generated to include the Diagnostic-, Balance-, Balance-Detail, as well as Violation-Report and it gives the same look and feel as under Linux or Windows. Another new feature of CC AUDITOR for z/OS is the possibility to add own section headings in the Standard File, which will then be shown in the Audit-Report. The structural grade of the program itself can now be calculated with one of the new metrics and shown in the Audit report. The metrics for calculation and the importance of the individual metrics can be given in the Standards File. The result of the structural grade will not influence the overall evaluation of CC AUDITOR. For more information please refer to the respective User Manuals of CC AUDITOR. In addition to the new CC ARTISAN reformatting rules the z/OS version was extended to support up to 6 Copy Libraries.
